We've had a number of requests in recent times for assistance with data recovery from media such as:
- optical disks (CD and DVD)
- USB flash disks, and
- digital camera memory cards.
Tools
For this purpose, we've had great success with Christophe Greiner's excellent PhotoRec tool. PhotoRec is Free Software, available for many different platforms, including Linux.
If you'd like assistance with basic data recovery using this tool, feel free to contact us for a quote. For each data recovery service we perform, a donation will be made to Christophe to promote further development of his Free Software data recovery suite.
Important!
- If you have deleted files from any medium, including your computer's hard disk, the most important thing to know if you want the best chance of getting them back is: do NOT use the device! If it is a USB flash disk or digital camera memory card, put it in a safe place and do not allow it to be put into a computer. If it is your computer's hard disk, do not turn on your computer at all.
- Please note that this is not an advanced, physical-level data recovery service (for which you should contact a specialist data recovery professional), but is a software-level process for recovery from problems such as inadvertently deleting files. We cannot recover data from physically failed hardware. If you are not sure whether your problem requires advanced data recovery, you are welcome to contact us - we can usually advise within a few minutes whether or not we believe there is a hardware issue. There is no charge for quoting on non-viable data recovery.
